Old Storefronts, Tiny Boots & A Wimberley Afternoon | Children’s Portraits at 7A Ranch

Somewhere between old storefronts and the Wild West, this Wimberley children’s portrait session unfolded one tiny cowboy… well, cowgirl …boot at a time.

By the end of the afternoon, a tiny pair of cowboy boots had covered just about every wooden porch at 7A Ranch.

Storefront windows became mirrors. Old bottles turned into treasure. Empty sidewalks somehow still felt full of movement from old western days past. This entire session carried the kind of curiosity kids bring into places adults stopped noticing a long time ago.

Earlier in the day, we wandered through parts of Wimberley’s trade days area while everything sat quiet between markets. Weathered signs, faded paint, antique booths, and old wood textures gave the whole afternoon this slower rhythm that fit the session perfectly without ever forcing it to become “western themed.”

That’s probably what I loved most about photographing her. Nothing needed to be overly directed. One minute she was completely focused on something sitting in a shop window, and the next she was halfway across a porch already onto the next discovery before anybody else had caught up.

Some sessions feel heavily constructed from the very beginning. This Wimberley children’s portrait session felt more like following curiosity wherever it decided to go next.

And somewhere in the middle of all that movement, the session quietly became what I love most about photographing kids in the first place — personality that shows up naturally instead of being pushed into place.
